Battle Creek is a community of 1,200 residents 12 miles southwest of Norfolk. A historical marker on Highway 121 north of Battle Creek tells the unlikely tale of how the city earned its name. When the Army went after the Pawnee, it was assumed that a battle would ensue. The Pawnee surrendered and the Pawnee War of 1859 ended without a drop of blood being shed.

Evergreen Hills Golf Course is three miles south of Battle Creek and is a nine-hole course in the Scottish links style. 54602 837 Rd. (402) 675-5004.
