Franklin County is located west of Webster County along the state’s southern border with Kansas. The town of Franklin is its largest community and county seat with almost 1,000 people. In the early 1800s this area was home to herds of bison and Pawnee Indians. Modern-day travelers can drive across the entire county on U.S. Highway 136, taking in sights of the Republican River along the Heritage Highway Scenic Byway.
