Neligh was founded in 1873 by brickmaker John Neligh. He built a mill on the Elkhorn River, and the town sprung up around it. All these years later, his mill is still there, known today as Neligh Mills State Historical Site. Neligh is in northeast Nebraska, 35 miles west of Norfolk.

The community of 1,500 residents is the county seat of Antelope County. In addition to its famous historic mill, Neligh boasts one of Nebraska’s only drive-in movie theaters. From May to September visitors relive old memories or make new ones at the big outdoor screen along state Highway 275 on the east side of the community. Neligh also has an indoor theater, a large museum complex, county fairgrounds and 86 acres of community greenspace.

Neligh has a large manufacturing sector for a community of its size, but agriculture is the largest industry here.
