A red timber-frame barn and windmill welcome visitors to the Wessels Living History Farm on the southern edge of York, not far from Interstate 80. This 145-acre property is a working farm as well as a museum showcasing Nebraska’s agricultural history, with a special focus on the 1920s. Other 1920s structures include a granary, machine shed, garage and chicken coop. There’s also a tractor museum with 20 restored machines.

The living history farm was the dream of local farmer David Wessels, who bequeathed the land and original artifacts. Other buildings have since been moved to the site. Open May through October.

The farm hosts a Tractor, Tool & Toy Swap Meet each May. It’s a weekend of fun finds and entertainment, with a quilt show, wagon rides, concessions and tours of the grounds.
