Scotts Bluff National Monument stands 800 feet above the North Platte River. The monolith served as an important landmark for pioneers traveling the Oregon, California and Mormon trails. Saddle Rock Trail stretches for 1.6 miles to the top, or drive Summit Road through automobile tunnels to reach the summit. Occasional rock slides can close trails. Check in at the Visitor Center to inquire about conditions. Open daily, except major holidays.
