The Oregon Trail Museum and Visitor Center is located at the base of Scotts Bluff National Monument  in Gering. The museum displays weapons and tools of pioneers. Artifacts include heirloom glassware lovingly wrapped in blankets for the arduous journey, diaries, and even children’s toys — a rarity considering that wagon space was at a premium. The museum also houses a collection of William Henry Jackson’s frontier paintings and photography. Many of his works depict scenes from the lives of pioneers.
