The Madison County Historical Society formed in 1928. The current museum opened in 1998 in a building that also houses the Madison Public Library and Madison’s city offices. A 2009 addition to the building is home to the museum’s Christmas Village. This exhibit and the museum’s model railroad are two of its most popular features. There is an extensive historical archive here. Other exhibits include antique firefighting equipment, outdated but fascinating communications technology, and a display honoring Madison County’s own Major League Baseball star, Richie Ashburn.
