Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area in Ogallala features the state’s largest reservoir and is a mecca for boating and fishing. Camp on the banks, build a sandcastle or drop in a line for walleye, channel catfish, northern pike, wiper and white bass.

Lake McConaughy is a water-lover’s paradise. At full pool, it is 22 miles long and nearly 4 miles wide for a whopping size of 55 square miles for boating, skiing, tubing, fish and pleasure cruising. Kingsley Dam holds back the Platte River waters to form the lake. Giant catches of big walleyes are common and striped bass weighing in excess of 60 lbs have been reeled up from the depths. Sand beaches attract sunbathing families and sand castle creators. Motors rev while water-skiers trail behind powerboats. Parasailing provides aerial views of lake fun.
