At one point during World War II, the Hastings Ammunition Depot was producing 40 percent of the bombs, rockets, mines and torpedoes used by the U.S. Navy. The concrete and earthen bunkers used for ammunition storage still stand across miles of Adams and Clay county farmland. Take Highway 6 east of Hastings and turn south on Technical Drive to see this silent reminder. Portions of the area are off limits. Please stay on roads and abide by signs.
